The College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Northeastern University (http://www.northeastern.edu/cssh/) invites applications and nominations of senior scholars for the position of Director of the World Languages Center to start July 1, 2015.
Newly located in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, the World Languages Center (WLC) is the principal locus of language instruction for Northeastern undergraduate and graduate students. The WLC has close links to other academic programs including the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, the International Affairs Program, the D’Amore McKim School of Business, and the Dialogues of Civilization summer study abroad programs.
Reporting to the Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Director will oversee all academic and administrative aspects of the Center. He or she will promote innovation and excellence in teaching and learning; forge a coherent vision for language pedagogy, curriculum, and assessment aligned with the College’s experiential liberal arts education model and Northeastern’s global mission; and develop productive collaborations within and beyond the University to advance the mission of the Center.
The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree in a modern language other than English, applied linguistics, language pedagogy, or a related discipline and will have extensive language teaching experience, demonstrated leadership and administrative expertise, and a substantial record of scholarly achievement. Research area is open; interests may include literature, history, linguistics, computer-assisted language learning, and second language acquisition, for example.
