Linguist Liz Marasco brings a conversation analytic approach to the consent conversation.
Scholars in conversation analysis have known for a long time that we try to avoid using the word ‘no’. We rely on a number of other linguistic resources to ‘say no’ in order to save face. So why is this word necessary in one very specific, high-stakes situation? Liz Marasco has Master of Arts in Linguistics from CU Boulder where she specialized in conversation analysis. She believes opportunity and vulnerability exist in every interaction. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
