Interested in Alexa? Come work with us! We are seeking a Spanish-speaking Language Engineer with experience in the field of computational linguistics or natural language processing. In this role, you will be a key member in a team of language engineers and scientists developing new Alexa products.

You will:

· Work on a high-impact, high-visibility product, with your work improving the experience of millions of customers
· Develop and deliver logical, testable, maintainable, and efficient language modeling solutions within the Alexa system, covering everything from speech recognition to natural language understanding

· Closely collaborate with our research scientist on the development of Alexa technology and solutions

· Apply data science techniques to analyze system performance and identify areas for improvement

· Analyze large or noisy language data sets and accurately describe patterns to derive conclusions and inform language modeling decisions
· Identify tooling needs and aid long-term scalable tool development to automate cross-team work
· Apply a range of NLP methods in practical application, as well as develop NLP components: write rules, build grammars/FSTs, create annotation systems or mappings for the target language
· Collaborate with other engineers and scientists in data collection and development efforts
· Write clear and concise documents (e.g. analysis reports)


· Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g. Python, bash)
· Knowledge of phonetics/phonology and ability to analyze/validate phonetic transcriptions
· Practical knowledge of version control and agile development
· Native or near-native fluency in a non-English language
· Knowledge of Unix/Linux command line tools
· Excellent written and spoken communication skills


· PhD in Computational Linguistics (or equivalent field with computational emphasis); alternatively, 5 years’ experience in the field
· Knowledge of machine learning and commonly used ML packages and libraries
· Hands-on experience working with Natural Language Processing or Speech Processing
· Experience in writing grammars and building FSTs
· Experience with statistical language modeling
· Strong personal interest in learning, researching, and creating new technologies related to foreign languages, linguistics, phonetics, phonology and language technology
· Practical knowledge of version control systems (e.g. Git) and agile development
· Feeling comfortable and motivated when working in a fast paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work environment
