The Language of LinkedIn
LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network and is fast becoming one of the most important ways to connect with employers, partners, mentors, former colleagues, employees, subject matter experts and clients. Thus, the communication which takes place here (or which could, but doesn’t) is tremendously valuable. This workshop is designed to share some insights from sociolinguistics including some theoretical concepts and research examples, but I do so in an accessible and applied way. In helping you better understand the complexity and nuance of social interaction in this context, my aim is to help you take better advantage of the benefits of joining this conversation!
There is no such thing as a “dream job” out there just waiting for you to find it. This is an active process, but you can (and will) build a career that you love using the skills and training of linguistics!
This workshop is designed to create and maintain some space for thinking about careers. After listening to some of the stories of people who are out there applying their skills and training in linguistics, you will come away with three things:
- A better understanding of the world of work
- An appreciation of story in the process of finding a career that you love
- some strategies for further educating yourself about careers
